By actively patrolling our multi-block campus and responding swiftly to emergencies, they safeguard patients, visitors, and staff from potential threats. Their visible presence provides comfort during uncertain moments and ensures that incidents are managed with professionalism and care. Security officers conduct thorough investigations, maintain detailed reports, and collaborate with law enforcement when needed—contributing directly to our culture of accountability and continuous safety improvement. What you'll do
- Patrol the hospital campus on foot, by vehicle, and by bike to promote safety, deter criminal activity and identify potential security concerns.
- Respond quickly and professionally to service requests, including staff and patient escorts, vehicle assistance and public support.
- Manage critical situations such as active incidents or disruptive behavior with calm, decisive action—including physical intervention when necessary.
- Conduct thorough investigations by interviewing involved parties, gathering relevant information and coordinating with law enforcement when appropriate.
- Accurately document all incidents in accordance with department policy, ensuring timely and detailed reporting that supports safety and accountability.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Driver’s License: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of two years and be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire. The license must be issued by the state in which the employee resides. Candidates must meet Salem Health’s Fleet Safety Requirements and maintain eligibility to operate vehicles as part of their role to remain in good standing.
- Prior relevant experience in security, law enforcement, or military police.
Additional information
- Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Unarmed Security certification completed within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
- Conductive Energy Weapon (CEW) certification within 90 days of hire.
- National Incident Management Systems (Hospital) 100, 200 and 700 courses completed within one year of hire.
- Experience in healthcare security and customer service is highly desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft business products – Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

RN residency program
